That seemed to be the easiest way to get the register to be a height
that exactly fit an integral number of rows.

I don't think it's a real problem. I mean, if someone wants to do
that, why stop them?

The status bar would look very strange in that case, It has a uniform
size for all the windows right now.

Ok, I can reproduce this. I'm not sure why this is happening, maybe
Heath (who knows the details of register drawing better) can see what's
going on here.
