Yes, except that, on one hand, they have a library stack with stable APIs, and on the other, an otherwise quite stable API that GCC hackers say “should not be used” by plug-ins. This, together with LLVM being in fashion, tends to push “academia” away from GCC, I think. Thanks, Ludo’.
