I remember seeing a talk by Jim Blandy on Subversion around 2001. At the time, the CVS-using community in the audience were (vocally) impressed by what a huge step forward it was in addressing the limitations of CVS. There are indeed other choices out there these days, but at the time it began, Subversion made a lot of sense. Ben
