Actually this is not so common, we have very rarely run into this requirment. CMM model level is a much more common requirement, at least in the US. Probably other countries are different, In India and Thailand, everyone advertises ISO 9000 compliance. When you step out of customs at the Bangkok airport, you see a big booth saying "ISO 9000 compliant taxi service" :-)
