Woow, looks very interesting, especially ScalaCL.

see that kernels can be written “seamlessly”, which is nice.  I suppose
it relies on the underlying OpenCL implementation for that.

What free software implementation of OpenCL exists?  Apparently there’s
Clover [0], which may not be usable yet.
