Hi Tom.
Absolutely so, though i will say i don't mind puzzles and significant
choices along the way either such as those in Eamon or in gamebooks like
ffproject.com.
I'd guess it's a question more of ease in my case. I don't mind a
challenging game, but I'd want the challenge to have some sort of flow and
something I can actually do about it rather than just be stone walled as is
the case in most if I tend to find.
Beware the Grue!
Dark.

Hi Ibrahim,
Well, I agree that I can get lost for hours in a good IF title, but I
personally have to be in the mood for that type of game. While I am a
huge fan of text adventures the problem I have with classic IF is I
find all too often I get stuck trying to guess the correct verb or end
up getting stuck trying to solve some insanely complex puzzle. In such
cases I get easily frustrated and give up on the game in question.
What I would enjoy more is a straight up text adventure based more on
stats and skills rather than puzzle solving like a roll playing game.
That is why I have been an active paid Sryth gild member becase is
more my idea of a text adventure than classic IF.

Hi Dark.
Ah, well it depends on what stimulates you. For my part, if I've had a
really shitty day or have an anxiety attack as sometimes happens after a
stressful situation, I lock myself away and play an Infocom or other
other
IF title. I'm an avid reader, so games that not only have great plot but
some tricky puzzles and inventive words in their parsers which I have to
guess at help to soothe my nerves because I am having to concentrate on
the
task at hand. I do enjoy games from Choice of Games and those at
www.ffproject.com, however there's nothing like traditional IF for a good
challenge. I recently played a very difficult but immensely satisfying
game
set in an abandoned school called Enemies in which you are an accountant
who
has been blessed with good fortune, however two school acquaintances
decide
to test you one night in a fight for your life puzzle fest because
they've
become psychotic and feel they were unfairly treated. As you solve the
puzzles, the story unfolds and its really important to pay attention to
detail as there are sections of the game in which you have to guess the
right move at the right time. For reference, this game is by Andy
Philips
and is available as a ZCode game in the IF-Archive along with his other
games, Heroine's Mantel, Inside Woman, Time All Things Come to an End and
Heist in no particular order of publication.
All the best, Ibrahim.
