Hi tom.

I was going on what I've seen in american tv programs like the simpsons, where the two sports seem to get equal mentions and themes throughout the series which implies something of equal popularity on an average, while it appears baskit ball is a little less popular. of course, my implications of averages here could well be wrong.

however my point was that in Britain, where football (at least of the none american variety), is hugely popular, appears everywhere in the media and even basic rules are known by none fans, crickit is far more a specific interest with it's own language and even dress code which is slightly impenitrable to none crickit fans.

There are! very fanatical crickit fans, but where as you can walk into a huge number of pubs during football season and see them showing whatever match is on, the same is not true of crickit, even though it is still frequently played and taught in schools.

So, while nearly everyone in Britain will know the basic outline of football, the same is not true of crickit, so jim's trouble understanding the rules of crickit isn't that uncommon even in Britain.

Where as, in America it seems that most people know the basic rules of baseball and! baskit ball and have enough familiarity to understand both games, even though some may be more fans of one than the other. Of course, this is an assumption and I freely admit I could well be wrong, I'm just going on the amount of attention American tv pays to both sports, where as in Britain only specific sporting coverage will cover crickit, while the subject of football will occur in drama, comedy, ---- heck even crime programs given that football hooligans aren't uncommon.

Beware the Grue!

dark.
