Hi Thomas,
I was really thinking of the ability of using arrow keys in the games menus,
I think the three ways are
1. arrow down to a choice than hit enter or space bar to select,
2. have hot keys for each choice so hitting e for exit or q to quit.
3. The old DOS method is reading all the choices on the screen and then hitting e then enter to exit. Sometimes I would hit control to shut up the speech when I got to the choice I wanted to make.
This is the slowest and most talkative method.

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Text Verses TTS Output

Hi Phil,

Well, that was basically the idea. I was thinking of creating a series
of games that were similar to their Dos counterparts. Even better I
wanted to rewrite a number of old Dos favorites like Oregon Trail and
make them available to Windows, Linux, and Mac users. The one thing I
would do differently was to add sounds and music to make them a little
more modern. Rather than thinking of it as two steps backwards I would
see it more as creating some games for nostalgia sake.

As far as using joysticks, trackballs, and mice I am all for that in
side-scrollers, first-person shooters, and arcade games but that isn't
what some of the projects are about. The games I'm considering write
now are intended to be basic games like board, card, and puzzle games
so that non-Windows gamers will have some of those games to play as
well. I see little advantage in having joystick support in something
like Monopoly, Blackjack, or a retro remake of Oregon Trail. :D

As far as TTS support goes that is looking more and more likely at
this point. If it is true that VoiceOver has poor terminal
accessibility then it wouldn't do me or them much good to write a
bunch of text based games if VoiceOver can't read them. So I intend to
follow up on this lead and make my decision once I know for sure what
the status quo is there.

Cheers!

Hi Thomas,
Making text with sound effects games seems like taking two steps back to
the
old DOS days rather than a step forward.
I prefer the ability to use SAPI TTS in games like Jim Kitchen does now.
I would also like to have the ability to use non-keyboard input devices
like
joy sticks track balls and mice.
