Hi Dark,
I can agree in part with those who want newer accessible games based on
newer mainstream games, but that kind of thinking can get a developer in
hot water if he or she does allot of that.
I mean I'd love to play a good remake of Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, and
more of our hottest titles, but if we do it for the blind community it
has to be done in such a way that it doesn't stomp on to many major
companies toes. Copyrights is a very real problem here in the U.S. and
getting to close to the original can get an accessible developer in big
trouble. It has to be done like GMA did with Doom. SOD is close enough
to doom to be cool, but not close enough to be a real outright copyright
issue.
However, that said some older games such as Space Invaders, Packman, and
Montezuma's Revenge have been cloned by many developers, and the
companies owning those copyrights seam to turn a blind eye to it. So
reproducing older games seams to be safer course for the ag dev
community at the moment.
