You must be careful with mailing list replies. Leave in the header about who said what, because in this message, you are combining lines quoted from 2 different mails from 2 different people. And I disagree with the line you quoted from the other guy. :-) > I was just curious what features I would miss if I use for example DR-DOS > 3.41 instead of DR-DOS 7.03. This was me. Size. DR-DOS 3.41 is basically a clone of MS-DOS 3.3, but with support for big hard disk partitions (that means bigger than 32MB!) and a few small nice extras, like a MOVE command. All later DOSes expected that you would have memory above 640 kB and some of DOS could be kept in that. You can't do that with a 186, real or emulated. So the only way to keep as much of your precious, all-important base memory (between 0-640 kB) free is to use the smallest possible DOS. DOS 4, 5, 6 and 7 will waste lots of it, run slower, and lots of bigger apps won't work. DOS 1 or 2 are extremely limited on features. DOS 3 is the sweet spot. DR 3.41 is the last ever in that version and family and gives the most "bang for the buck". This was not me: >> If you want to get the 1980 feeling, get used to EDLIN. There were lots of powerful DOS editors and many are on here as free downloads: https://clasqm.github.io/freedos-repo/ All 100% checked and legit, no "abandonware". -- Liam Proven ~ Profile: https://about.me/liamproven ~ LinkedIn/X/FB: lproven Email: lpro...@cix.co.uk ~ Google: lpro...@gmail.com IoM: (+44) 7624 227612: UK: (+44) 7939-087884 Czech [+ WhatsApp/Telegram/Signal]: (+420) 702-829-053 _______________________________________________ Freedos-user mailing list Freedos-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freedos-user
