There are several ways to avoid centralized services. One is to host services on decentralized servers, another is to avoid client-server architecture altogether and use P2P architectures instead. Yet another is to completely avoid always-on networking and instead use sneakernet. The approach used with FreedomBox is that of decentralized servers. Extremely decentralized: One server per user. So in the context of FreedomBox your question does not make sense.
