I would not give too much credit to Microsoft pulling the plug on
Silverlight... Around February 20010 they joined forces with Apple in
order to kill Flash, at that point they said plugin is dead, Flash is
dead and viva HTML.Then came a new version of Silverlight, at which
point they went public and said HTML5 does not cut it, plugin is still
the way to go, then 3 months later they go over the whole cycle again.

So yes Microsoft said plugin is dead when convenient (remember their
goal is to kill Flash ever since Macromedia refused several more
billion from Microsoft than Adobe ended up spending) but it does not
mean Silverlight is dead, they announced the last release as an
alternative to Flash right after Adobe dumped it on mobile.
