The mail never got to the ML, I am pasting it below. It was in the thread: "Discussion about mails from 9 years ago Was: [PATCH 1/2] doc/community: Add a standard set of rules for software development mailing lists" I saw no announcement of any CC action related to that thread. > > > > Indirect evidence points towards compn adding the block in both cases. > > IMO it's utterly unacceptable that a random unelected person (not even a > > part of GA at that) just unilaterally decides to usurp CC powers and > > censor the ML. > > > > CCing root - I request that ML moderator privileges are removed from > > everyone who does not have a legitimate reason to have them (that is > > server administrators and CC members). The reasons I think it was compn are: * he replied to email contents in a private IRC message (which btw I consider another major abuse of moderator powers) * he mentioned having ML mod access on ML * his CC candidacy email mentions preemptive ML censoring But we do not have to speculate, the person who did it can just say so. Either way, I believe there should be clarity about who has ML moderator powers and what they can use them for. The email mentioned above: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Quoting compn (2024-11-24 21:51:08) > On Sun, 24 Nov 2024 20:09:43 +0100 > Michael Niedermayer <mich...@niedermayer.cc> wrote: > > > less than 2 weeks ago the founder was insulted like this: > > "Fabrice's control of ffmpeg.org and French trademark, despite not havign > > contributed > > in 20 years, purely for ego reasons mean we can never move to a truly > > community run set or project infra." > > > > And we can probably go on and on. > > On top of this i would not be surprised if other people have similar stories > > from yet others they spoke with. > > a non-ff developer at vdd said i was "inactive for years". it > makes me not want to visit vdd again. i reported them to the videolan > board, Saying someone seems inactive is a reportable offence now? Because you do seem inactive to me. Before this VDD, the last email from you on the ML sems to be from June 2018, that is over 6 years ago. You also have 3 commits in the last 10 years (of them zero in the last 7 years). You are not in GA, any of the committees, or MAINTAINERS. The only mention of you in infra is as IRC channel founder, yet I saw minimal activity from you in #ffmpeg-devel until very recently. So just why are you surprised or offended that someone considers you inactive? Also, as a counterpoint, consider the following perspective: some person, whom I haven't seen contribute to the project in years, suddenly appears out of nowhere and fills the ML with his opinions on how the project should be run. What kind of an impression do you think that creates? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Anton Khirnov _______________________________________________ ffmpeg-devel mailing list ffmpeg-devel@ffmpeg.org https://ffmpeg.org/mailman/listinfo/ffmpeg-devel To unsubscribe, visit link above, or email ffmpeg-devel-requ...@ffmpeg.org with subject "unsubscribe".
