I believe that you will have the kapm-idled process running unless you 
recompile your kernel w/o the option "Make CPU idle calls when idle" 
under "General Setup". From the kernel documentation: "This option 
enables calls to APM CPU Idle/CPU Busy inside the kernel's idle loop. On 
some machines, this can activate improved power savings, such a slowed 
CPU clock rate, when the machine is idle."
