Nope, nor in the source RPM, nor did "locate sane.ps" turn up anything. I
did find it on the web site; it's listed as a "Programmer's Manual". After
getting over my sinking feeling, I took a quick spin through the HTML
version and did not see anything that looked useful.

Ah, another example of excellent documentation. I found find-scanner while
scrounging in the source RPM, and ran it there sucessfully. It says,

find-scanner: found processor "HP C2570A 3406" at device /dev/sge
and /dev/scanner is set up correctly:
