Automakers have never worried about high power consumption in their
electronics. We have watches that run for years on a coin cell, solar
calculators that run on room light, radios that play for hundreds of hours on a
single AA cell, laptops that can sit in standby for months... but most cars
will run down their huge 100AH 12v battery from just sitting idle for a few
weeks.

I have a little solar panel under the back window to keep the 12v battery
charged in our Prius, and a battery minder on my Colorado pickup (the vehicles
that sit idle for long periods). We drive our EVs daily. :-)
