While I think that might have been true 8-10 years ago, today there are many more good EVs. Tesla has been slacking, while other EV makers have sprinted ahead. One problem is that Tesla still has nothing in the low price class. In fact they cancelled their program to make one. I haven't been following the EV market in the US all that closely, but here in France, there are now good, practical EVs starting at under 23,000 euros. That's 20,000 euros less than Tesla's cheapest Model 3, and they're flying off the dealer lots. In fact for the price of a base Model 3, you could buy TWO of France's cheapest EV, the Dacia Spring (< 17,000 euros), and have 9,000 euros left over. The Spring's not a luxurious or sporty EV by any means, but it's a decent and usable city car. Also, you may not see it there because of US tariffs, but in China, their homegrown automakers are wiping the floor with Tesla and just about everyone else. They're ahead on price, on range, on charging speed, on features. I think that Tesla needs to get going pronto, but Elon Musk seems to have lost interest in EVs.
