Hi Folks, I tried out the $236 purchased NACS - CCS supercharger adapter today on my 20' Chevy Bolt that normally has a 50KW charge rate on Electrify America (VW) Fast Chargers.
The dealer was clueless, *no* instructions in the "GM" box. Here's what I discovered: 1. Initially you *must* put the adapter on the Tesla Cord NACS connector *not* in the car first. Otherwise the solenoid won't open and allow the Tesla supercharger cable to connect. 2. Since the Tesla cable is very short (about 3 feet), you have to straddle two parking places (which may go over like a fart in church at busy places). 3. The GM/Chevy app *does not* work, must use the Tesla app (I have a Tesla so didn't have to download). 4. Select the upper right 3 tick-lines (took some hunting), then at the bottom asks if you have a non-Tesla vehicle & Sheetz-etc location. 5. Select the stall you're at, 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B etc. 6. Initiate charge - then the charge rate was a dismal 37KW (not 50KW). It showed taking 1 hour from 40% to 80%! Charging even slower than normal. 7. Charge rate appeared to be $1 per KWH, not the 38-43c per KWH I've seen with my Tesla-Y. 8. There's a $1 per minute idle fee - when it stops unplug immediately (My Tesla-Y is much less and not immediate). 9. When done, stop charging on app or car screen before pulling plug. Also must pull cord with adapter from car. 10. Adapter appeared to be stuck on cord but there's a small release underneath on the bottom of the adapter to release it. Conclusion: Tesla doesn't want to "make nice" allowing other EVs to charge at their superchargers. It_would_be_a_last_resort to charge at a Tesla Supercharger with a non Tesla vehicle. I won't say I wasted $236 since I may be stuck in the boonies away from an Electrify America fast charger - but it's a PITA to use. Have a renewable energy day, Mark Mark E.
