What a difference from my experience! I'm driving a 2024 Ford Lightning
which has a CCS inlet. Although Ford will eventually send me a NACS to
CCS adapter, they are massively backordered. So I bought a recommended
A2Z Typhoon Pro adapter for about $170.
10 days ago (the day the adapter arrived), I tried it for the first
time. Opposite of what Mark reported, I found that I needed to plug the
adapter into the truck and then plug the Tesla cable into the adapter.
As soon as I plugged in, it started charging. No further action
required. Turned out that the SuperCharger location I was using is
inside a store parking structure and the structure was closing in less
than 20 minutes. So I ended up adding 28 KWH in 13 minutes for an
average of 2.15 KWH per minute for a rate of 130 KW. The cost was
$13.22 or 47 cents per KWH. I have since used other different Tesla SC
locations twice with similar results. Rates do differ depending on the
location and time of the day. I can also buy a Tesla subscription that
reduces the cost per KWH by about a dime. If I were to regularly use
Tesla SC locations, it would make sense, but most of the time I do not
expect to do so. However if taking a long trip it would totally make sense.
I will tell you that Ford has made an agreement with Tesla so that Tesla
is part of what Ford calls the "Blue Oval Charge Network". That means
that billing is totally automatic. After I completed the short charge
session, I received a notice via the FordPass app, and also an E-Mail of
what the total charge was. Ford had been set up to charge the desired
credit card.

Hi Folks,
I tried out the $236 purchased NACS - CCS supercharger adapter today on my
20' Chevy Bolt that normally has a 50KW charge rate on Electrify America
(VW) Fast Chargers.
The dealer was clueless, *no* instructions in the "GM" box. Here's what I
discovered:
1. Initially you *must* put the adapter on the Tesla Cord NACS connector
*not* in the car first. Otherwise the solenoid won't open and allow the
Tesla supercharger cable to connect.
2. Since the Tesla cable is very short (about 3 feet), you have to straddle
two parking places (which may go over like a fart in church at busy places).
3. The GM/Chevy app *does not* work, must use the Tesla app (I have a Tesla
so didn't have to download).
4. Select the upper right 3 tick-lines (took some hunting), then at the
bottom asks if you have a non-Tesla vehicle & Sheetz-etc location.
5. Select the stall you're at, 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B etc.
6. Initiate charge - then the charge rate was a dismal 37KW (not 50KW). It
showed taking 1 hour from 40% to 80%! Charging even slower than normal.
7. Charge rate appeared to be $1 per KWH, not the 38-43c per KWH I've seen
with my Tesla-Y.
8. There's a $1 per minute idle fee - when it stops unplug immediately (My
Tesla-Y is much less and not immediate).
9. When done, stop charging on app or car screen before pulling plug. Also
must pull cord with adapter from car.
10. Adapter appeared to be stuck on cord but there's a small release
underneath on the bottom of the adapter to release it.
Conclusion: Tesla doesn't want to "make nice" allowing other EVs to charge
at their superchargers. It_would_be_a_last_resort to charge at a Tesla
Supercharger with a non Tesla vehicle. I won't say I wasted $236 since I
may be stuck in the boonies away from an Electrify America fast charger -
but it's a PITA to use.
Have a renewable energy day,
Mark
