Do what Tesla recommends and don’t do what you read on forums.

It doesn't give any more range than 98%, unless you always start by driving on the highway or up a hill, because you don't get regen. A good reason to leave Teslas plugged in is that they use a lot of energy when you're not driving. Maybe the equivalent of two miles in 24 hours. So if you leave your Tesla unplugged for too long you may have an unpleasant surprise. (In my case, even though the car is plugged in it drains the battery for this idle draw, then recharges it every couple days. That does not seem right to me.)
