Hi David…

It’s been a long time since I posted here, but I saw your good questions, and
misinformation being given, so I’m jumping into suggest that you spend an hour
looking at some basic science, like the role of CO2 on earth, and some
simplified accurate information on climate and the role of CO2.

No, you don’t want CO2 levels to go to zero ppm in the atmosphere. Plants rely
on CO2, for example. Imagine the impacts on ecosystems worldwide if there were
levels of CO2 that caused stress in plants. (And people and animals breathe out
CO2). I’m sure someone has modeled climate effects with a huge decline in CO2
levels, beyond pre-industrial levels, but I would expect that there would be
devastating effects in that direction, too. I think that the key is maintaining
the delicate balance, with not disrupting with changes. Note also that CO2 is
not a pollutant in the traditional sense of the word, and has no adverse health
effects.

Also note that the concern for climate change is not just CO2. CO2 is important
in creating the greenhouse gas effect, but it really only one of several
compounds that have that impact. Many have a greater impact, but CO2 is just
used as a comparison, referred to as ”CO2 equivalency”. That’s why just looking
at CO2 levels doesn’t necessarily completely address the the issue,
particularly since you can get a greater bang for the buck in reducing
something else. Nitrogen oxides of various flavors is just one example… they
come from ICE auto exhaust. They have a greater GHG impact that reducing an
equivalent amount of CO2, with the added benefit that reducing NOx reduces air
pollution.

Lastly, someone here said that carbon neutral means “no CO2 emissions”. That’s
not really the case. Carbon neutral means when you take the increases in
emissions and compare with the decreases, the net of that is zero. So yes,
carbon neutral can mean CO2 emissions, especially if you are offsetting those
CO2 emissions with “CO2 equivalents” of a completely different compound.

So again, I suggest some basic research, and even some “lame stream” sources
will give you better information.

Good luck in your search for answers.
