It does seem that many EV developers veer onto that road. If memory serves, that was the original proposal for the Mitsubishi Imiev. Eventually they abandon the idea after wasting significant time and money. Do you suppose that they think "Aha! I'll use wheel motors!" because wheel motors work well for e-bikes?
