It's not absurd if the article's writer is trying to inflate the cost of owning an EV, while minimizing the cost of owning an ICEV. Most writers with a goal of slamming EVs do this by using worst-case numbers for EVs against best-case numbers for ICEVs. This one apparently couldn't get the results her boss wanted even using that method, so she had to use wrong figures instead.
