YES!  The side with the leads is where the sensing chip is, 
the cross side is where the magnet is.

Hmm, yes, mine were bought directly from Digi-Key, and they 
have a printed label which bears no resemblance to the part 
number on the side with the leads.  Looking closely, there 
is an italic "A" molded into that side, too, which I guess 
is the "brand".

Too bad you glued it all together before testing a sensor.  
I waved something ferrous in front of one a few times to get 
some idea of how the thing worked.
