Dea Angelo
to close this thread.
You have following alternatives:
1.- Customise every time you need it, like in the video
2.- Customise once, following the procedure in the video, but answering
"safe for future sessions"
3.- Add the local variable as I initially suggested and when the message
appears, answer that you consider the value safe in the future.
4. Add
(setq-default org-latex-table-scientific-notation "\\num{%se%s}")
to your init.el
5. Add
(put 'org-latex-table-scientific-notation 'safe-local-variable
#'string-or-null-p)
to init.el and then using it as a local variable in your file. You
should not receive further messages.
6. Use the main branch of Org mode, where all user requests and
suggestions land earlier and helping us all improve Org. Consult the
FAQ https://orgmode.org/worg/org-faq.html Chapter 4.
7. Be patient and wait until all the improvements you suggest (thanks
for that) make it to the org-mode code that is part of emacs-devel. If
you have any doubt on the time line, ask the list and Ihor, Org's
maintainer, will surely explain the steps and time frame.
Thanks a lot for giving us hints for improving Org,
/PA

Hi again, Angelo
I found a second and recompiled Emacs master on a ubuntu vm to test.
Attached is a zip with:
1. your mwe.org
2. the mwe.tex I generate after setting the variable
3. the result of compiling it with pdflatex
4. a Screencast with the whole interaction with Emacs
I can't find what might be wrong in your system.
Nothing! Here All works just fine.
Just doing the customization as you do in the video (without using emacs
-Q and with *all* my original init.el, works!
The only difference is that I get 3.81 x 10^12 and not 3,81 x 10^12
(with the dot, not the comma)
Without your customization, I _have to_ add this in init.el
(setq org-latex-table-scientific-notation "\\num{%se%s}")
and not what you suggested in a previous mail
(setq-local org-latex-table-scientific-notation: "\\num{%se%s}")
it doesn't work because it doesn't want '-local' and the ':'.
In any case, I don't like much the solution to change the init.el, I
would prefer to add the option on ORG file basis (if one do not want the
scientific notation in a document?)
Maybe your patch would work, I will wait for it to land in Emacs master
to test.
Ciao,
Angelo.
Best, /PA
Note: I'm doing emacs -Q and, just in case, I'm using an empty init
directory which doesn't even have an init.el So it's a pristine
environment.
