Some better news, in my collection of old stuff I found a small wall power 
supply that is of older non switched mode design, (you can tell by the weight 
apart from anything else), it was actually from a pair of powered speakers that 
I no longer use with an older computer and had the correct connector. It is 
slightly higher output DC voltage than the one the manufacturer supplied, but I 
presume that the regulator in the speaker amp will handle it. (I could find no 
information on the input voltage limits of the speaker either on the product or 
the box/leaflet). 

Anyway, tested it with the KX3 this morning and it all sounds fine, plenty of 
volume and no rattles or resonance, no breakthrough from mobile phone RF close 
by. Nice to have stereo on the speakers for the audio effects like Delay and 
Pitch in the KX3.
