Hi James
I am a Debian guy and have been since changing from Suse to Debian many
years ago (Suse6) after running into RPM hell. I have to say while I
have used Mint and KDE based Ubuntu & Xubuntu, I am not a great lover of
*buntu based distros, nothing major just a personal preference.
You don't say what spec your PC\Laptop is but being as it handles Win11
it should be half decent spec for Debian. You should look at MX Linux,
use XFCE for the desktop. Alternative for that would be SolydXK Linux,
which comes in either XFCE (X) or KDE (K). Both MX and SolydXK are both.
Based on stable branch of Debian although SolydXK does have a testing
branch. MX has a very good support forum if you run into trouble
Of course you can always run Debian itself, but you will find it less
polished than say Mint or MX.
I use my laptop for general everyday computing, I use NoMachine to
connect to my Window 10 box so I can run the win10 desktop RDP like on
my Linux laptop. I am running dual external screens plus the laptop
screen (I have a docking station). Happy with the setup.
If you have any questions ask away
Regards
Tim H

Hello,
At some point in the future I am planning on switching from windows 11 to
linux but I am not sure what distro to go for.
I'm most familiar with debian, through raspberry pi os, but also either
mint or ubuntu are also on the table.
Does anybody have any thoughts on on thr pros and cons of these distros to
help me decide?
Many thanks
James
