No this one has a Mic, it's just rubbish. It worked out of the box, so no need for anything unusual. > I presume that you saw these: > http://askubuntu.com/questions/297399/how-to-get-webcam-working-with-skype-o > n-ubuntu-13-04 > > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SkypeWebCams The Trust Primo camera isn't on that list. It is also quite old. The problem I have with the latest version of Skype is more to do with what it does with the video stream than which camera is compatible. I only got into looking for an alternative because of the packet loss I was getting with my 1280x960 Logitech and I thought a lower res camera might just squeeze through. Well it doesn't and I've now worked out that I probably need an uplink speed of at least 1 Mbps to use Skype with the low-res camera and 4 Mbps to use it with the hi-res one. I have about 480 kbps. I'm now hoping that Tox will eventually come through. It uses UDP instead of TCP/IP, so it won't worry about dropped packets and will just 'carry on regardless' Of course if the packet loss is too high, the video will stutter anyway at the other end. The trouble with TCP/IP for this application is that it works well as long as the link has enough headroom to cope with resent packets. Once the packet loss gets up to about 50%, there are more resent packets than real ones. This is what I was seeing. I intend to do some more testing with Tox when I get more time and someone at the other end (eg my daughter), so I can measure the actual performance. -- Terry Coles -- Next meeting: Bournemouth, Tuesday, 2015-01-06 20:00 Meets, Mailing list, IRC, LinkedIn, ... http://dorset.lug.org.uk/ New thread on mailing list: mailto:dorset@mailman.lug.org.uk How to Report Bugs Effectively: http://goo.gl/4Xue
