Anyway, I found the reference from April last year and guess what?  It was you 
who told me what to do Ralph :-)

Here is what you said at the time:

I tried that, but dpkg through a wobbly and barfed when it tried to instal V 
4.2.0.11 of skype-bin and fell back on installing V 4.3.0.37 (the broken one).  
After a bit of fiddling, I was able to install skype-bin using the the Package 
Installer, but not skype.  I then noticed that the download for skype is 15.7 
kB, whereas skype-bin is 16.2 MB, so I ran Skype and it seems to work !!!
