Maybe another question to ask is "okay, Paul wants to build this, but why does the IETF need to standardize it?" I don't mean that the answer should be "it doesn't," but rather that I don't actually see why this is valuable, and maybe I'm not the only one who needs to hear more of a sales pitch.
