Well, the list of names in the root is nominally an IANA registry, and they're removed lots of names such as .NATO and countries that no longer exist such as .CS and .YU. But somehow I'm guessing that's not what you're thinking of. It is my vague recollection that we have removed some old cruft from parameter registries, but after some googlage I can't find any details.
