As I recall, the HTTP/2.0 folks have been intermittently talking about
supporting SRV. Would encouraging that group on that front be easier
than inventing CNAME support at the apex?

No reason to think either approach would get better or less
adoption-rates over time.

Or are there other uses for ENAME beyond what the HTTP/CDN crowd do
with CNAMEs today?
