Pain in the butt to get working everywhere. That said, back before we decided the RIAA made it too risky, we used to have multicast mp3 streams on campus (with plugins for xmms and, hm, I can't remember the name of the old SPARC mp3 player). I even hacked up a multicast relay to connect directly to some of the SCS streams and forward them to ECE multicast groups, since getting the multicast foo across the intervening campus network was too painful.
