First, your use of Wikis is excellent. The more you can make your users self-sufficient. Eventually they will go there first (especially if the cover page is a good Table of Contents).
Now, onto your other big issue: where did the day go? Recording what you do is good for many reasons: 1. it is hard to remember everything in your head. 2. afterwords you can look back and see what you did. I agree that a log of what you did will help you analyze your day and lead to better decisions. Don't try to keep a minute-by-minute list or try to write down the exactly number of minutes something took. Marking things as "small", "medium" and "large" will get you the same results and is less brain-work. Personally I recommend paper because you can get started today. However, I also like Appigo Todo for the iPhone. Episode 7 of http://www.tomontime.com start the series of talks on todo list management. Remember "the 2 minute rule". If someone interrupts you and it is going to take less than 2 minutes, do it right then. Otherwise, write it into your todo list and let them know when you'll get to it. Make sure they see you writing it down so they don't think you are blowing them off. If you have a huge, constant, flood of interruptions: Make a deal with a coworker to shield you from interruptions (tickets, user "walk-ins", etc.) in the morning so you can do project work? Then you can do the reverse in the afternoon for him/her. That way each of you get a half day of "serious work" done each day. Tom P.S. Two brief plugs: 1.
