Sam Ruby commented on WHIMSY-92:
--------------------------------
A bit more definition as to what is envisioned might be helpful.
The roster tool is the most logical place for this function. whimsy-vm4 is
subscribed to the board mailing list already, and messages as they are received
are placed into individual files: /srv/mail/board/YYYYMM/hash
Looking at existing messages, subject lines generally contain the person's
public name and the name of the PMC; but there quite a bit of variety in how
the subject lines are constructed. Having the person's availid would make
things easier
A worthwhile first step might be to simply display 'n' days worth of notices
for the PMC, with hotlink to ponymail or mail-search archives to the actual
messages. This information should only displayed to PMC members and ASF
members.
A next step might be to add a warning whenever a PMC member is being added
without a matching notice; and perhaps adding a cc: to board@ when changes are
made that can't be verified.
Additional steps (such as helping people craft a notice in the first place)
could be taken incrementally.
> Automate the PMC new member process

> The PMC new member process is quite involved. It might make sense to automate
> most of it.
> Whimsy can potentially automate some of the checks, e.g. has the NOTICE file
> been received by the board archive.
