I have yet to find that the entire site [1] is down, but the forums are responding with SQL error messages. So having a redirect page would be useful to prevent people sending unnecessary reports. Also people are more likely to accept that an entire site is down, whereas a site that is partly broken gives a worse impression. Please consider adding a maintenance page.
