Hallo Frando,

So what are your ideas? Until now, I oriented towards
spreadfirefox.com

my ideas is same as yours ... I'm so sorry if my sentences sounds too offensive, but English is not my first language and I'm too crabby these days.

I still like the idea about SpreadOpenOffice.org site, but I'm not
so optimistic about one site for the whole world. But anyway, I've
created this site in the Czech language
(http://prejdete.openoffice.cz/). If you like any part of this site,
just take it, no problem at all.

I'm planning to extend my site to autodetect OS, language. So the
most feasible file will be proposed. If you're interested in these
scripts (PHP), just let me know.

This is a generous offer, Robert...

Back to the Charles comments (my thoughts) ...

o Download page should automagically check the OS, language and the
most feasible file will be proposed. The final URL will point to
the official OpenOffice.org FTP / HTTP server, so there is no
need for huge bandwidth for this site.

+1.

o End user community, bulletin - we know, that we have forums,
mailing lists and we shouldn't add another ones. We should rather
point to the existing ones.

+1.

Next thing is, that this site should be more 'static' than 'dynamic'
in the manner of user forums, ...

I think the big plus would be to have promotion site, not a support site or anything else.

Maybe I'm still little bit sceptic about the name, which is
 'SpreadOOo' - copying 'SpreadFirefox'?

Even if I'm sceptic about few things, I'm for this site and
I appreaciate that you're working on it and that you wrote
a reaction to my first post in this thread. If you have an idea,
work on it even if you are reading negative reactions (few from me
too). It's not neccessary to get MP [co-]lead approval, it's not
their domain. There are people like Daniel, Justin, ... they'll help
you too (whois, whois tool, aaaa, Justin is the owner ;-).

I think we really need to do this with the MP. Of course the MP doesn't own the site, it's beside the point, but we're working on OOo marketing, aren't we?

I'm going to help, just let me know. I'm acting between developers
(I was developer for years) and users (I'm training them). So
I perfectly know what both groups want. Where I can help you:

   - PHP scripts (OS autodetection, language detection, ...)
   - write docs how to install under this OS, under this OS, ...
   - screenshots, ...
   - list of official mirrors, list of unofficial mirrors /
     languages, ...

And many more things. IOW, just drop me a note off-list. I live in
the Czech republic, so it's not so far to visit you ;-)

Thanks,

Charles.

Cheers,
Robert
