There are some people who prefer mailing lists, some who prefer forums, and some who prefer newsgroups.

I don't know how easy it would be to have posts on a mailing list be
placed correctly in a forum. But the "best" thing might be to have
all discussions etc available in all three formats.
[newsgroup to email/email to newsgroup currently exists.
forum to email can be done. So the only thing I don't know about is
email to forum.]

Then perhaps we need to use a system that combines the best of both.

http://www.nexus.org.nz is a BBS system / forum that you can choose to have all the messages emailed. You have to login to answer but not to read

For me it would be great, just kill all the email crap swelling my inbox or choose which mails I'll receive and otherwise work it like a conventional forum. Yea wouldn't I love that!

But people like Jacqueline can still get everything in their mailbox and only have to jump into the forum to answer. Best of both worlds really

Hell go to Nexus, Register, tell them Yorick sent you. You'll see how it works. All the code was written and is maintained by the people who are using it. And is was to cater for just such a dichotomy a swe have here.. If you have any techie questions, post to Koenig or Draggie or Valks. If nothing else it'll be fun.
Oh and it's mature. Nexus has been going since 1988.

But the mind boggles at trying to imagine getting that sort of change through the system here! :-/

Cheers
Yo
