Possibly, but the discussion that raised the possibility was here, so...

I suppose it would have to be Sourcecast so I daresay we go through

Louis?

The current version of SourceCast actually does have forums, and these,
I believe, are integrated to emails. Also, you can use Gmane, a
newsgroup feature, which allows usage of RSS.

The point about the Nexus BBS system is that it will deliver posts as emails for those who prefer to get messages via email but is usable purely as a forum if the user so wishes. The problem that some of us find is that all the decisions are made on the mail lists and nothing on forums, so too bad if you don't like mail lists and would prefer just to use the forums. The Nexus setup get's around that in that you can read all posts as mail and you only need to login to post.

What do you think Louis, would this be possible within the Sourcecast framework

To implement a 3rd party app? probably not. But, the issue really should depend on what you want done. For instance, all of us use IRC --freenode--

IRC is old geek network. I've tried to find the freenode thing but never managed it as yet. I'm obviously just too thick. But IRC is not very user friendly to simple end users.

and a lot of us IM for daily discussions, chats, etc. These
are particularly useful for meetings, group discussions, and like.
Forums are, too.

For cross-list work, we use IZ, which is not
well-suited for live interaction.

Heh, as I've stated in the past IZ is not really well suited for a lot of things we use it for

Setting up a forum on this or any other project is fairly
straightforward. The project leads have to do it, I think, and one must
subscribe to a particular forum; messages from that forum appear on your
start page.

But the point is does the CollabNet forum deliver posts via email. That is the whole point, to satisfy both the Emailers and the Forumites.

Sorry to answer your simple question in such a roundabout way....

Oh, the forums for Marketing are here: <http://marketing.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectForumView> You have to
be logged in and a member of Marketing Project to view them.

I never knew they existed and going by the no. of posts only a few do.
Obviously we have need of a better forum system

Cheers
Yo
