It's pretty much the same from my perspective. It could be a lot better, there is a lot of potential that Adobe does not see. On the other hand there still is a strong community with some very smart and creative people.
I still use AS3 (mainly AIR) every day and we are even using it for brand new projects. It still gets the job done and I don't see a better alternative for our needs.
