Taken from the project's governance[1] page - Guiding philosophy: "Mindfully balance the need for progress with the need for consensus" I think the CEP as it stands with its current scope is complete. Holding it up for forward looking features such as SQL support in Cassandra is stopping incremental progress for something that someone might want to contribute in the future.
