Since I'm the guy who was, as Kent said, "forced [...] to drop everything", I think some warning is all we need. Just NI us on the bug with an approximate landing date and perhaps a hint what to do to proactively fix the issues before they arise.
What's next? Bug 1297300? There are a few more bugs searching for "must_use".
