Package: mesa-utils
Version: 7.0.3-1
Severity: important
Launching glxgears from a terminal session then closing the terminal results in
X freezing and refusing to respond to input, in fact making it impossible to
even switch to a virtual terminal. This is likely the reason certain
xscreensaver hacks (gflux and polytopes) hang X when run from xscreensaver-demo
(I previously filed a report on that).
This probably affects other packages, and it hangs X, which is why I have given
important rather than normal.

I have confirmed that this issue is specific to the r200-based ati
card. I have an r100 card that works fine now, with acceleration. It
is possible that is the driver and specific to that chipset, but I
think it more likely that it is the hardware, given that even with the
downgrade to the version that doesn't freeze almost immediately there
are rare lockups when using gl (as in it happened after a week of being
fine).
Unless someone else reports the same problem, or I get another
r200-based card and experience the same problem, I see no reason to
leave this bug open.
Regards,
Daniel
