i thought i was clear.  it doesn't matter which driver. the driver worked fine.

i might have lead you to believe that it was the driver, so my mistake.

so can we stop the discussion about the "driver".

i was responding to another post in the thread in which there was a statement 
about the user having trouble with windows printer drivers.

for my brother they do, that's all I was saying.

see how that works ? some people have trouble setting up printers under 
windows, some people don't
99.99% of the people get it set-up under linux without a problem, 0.01% of us 
don't.

my problem is getting cups set-up.

what could be better ? 

being able to connect to cups through the web interface on the first try.
