I, personally, don’t feel that this type of spelling error should hold up a package. Julias, if you are willing to work with upstream to address this issue in a future release, I would be willing to take a look at sponsoring the package now. My experience is that upstream projects are happy to apply patches that fix these types of spelling errors.
