These changes were made to part of an Invariant section of the GNU Emacs
manual, that's relevant.
What's also relevant is that anybody running 'cvs update' on their
source and receiving this patch; and as this occurred just before the
21.3 release, anyone applying a "difference file" to their source rather
than downloading the new complete distribution; broke the following term
of the GNU Free Documentation License.
L. Preserve all the Invariant Sections of the Document, unaltered
in their text and in their titles. Section numbers or the
equivalent are not considered part of the section titles.
Once you've released an Invariant section not only may none of your
users change it, YOU MAY NOT change it either.
If you plan to not use any form of "difference file" and plan never to
give public access to any version control system (even through a web
interface) you could probably claim you could...
Except copying a new version of the file over an old can be considered
"modification", especially by a keen legal person after the contents of
your wallet. Think upgrading your copy, if you're not sure what I'm
getting at here.
Invariants are the copyleft equivalent of nuclear waste... they're
still going to be around unchanged in 10,000 years time when you'll wish
you weren't so stupid when you were younger and could have avoided
making them in the first place.
