till some years ago some langs directory edited the xml files and didn't use po infrastructure; now all langs use po and "XML-based translations" can be removed "nobody's using XML format" is not correct; the machine converts xml <=> po and translators can use its benefit for more information, see scripts/* in the repository -- victory no need to CC me :-)
