Extremely, unless your workflow requires using something else to get the
upstream tarball from the archive (among other less important
requirements). Though many people don't use d/gbp.conf for this, with
predictable results when someone else than those people tries to build
the repo.

Yes, and all the teams would use it in that ideal world. There is a bug
reported against gbp for the first of these points AFAIK.
That would be a backwards incompatible change though I guess.
