Thats partly true. But while it possible makes "administration" easier is probably does NOT make "support" easier. That is for several reasons: There is _more_ software to support (e.g. answering questions to users, help them customizing it to their requirements), the target audience is more sensible for isssues that we'd consider minor or not worth to fix in a stable release, etc. Often there are usability improvements in software that helps the people who use the desktop to be more efficient in what they do. Desktops are probably the most-compelling reason why a need for backports exist, IMHO.
