After receiving Thomas Viehmann's mail, I checked myself with
LANG=de_DE, and I get umlauts just fine.  As I said, I suspect your
gnucash is using a font that doesn't have them, or some other problem
is going on with your system.

I am certain there is no bug in gnucash.  Reopening the bug report
does nothing; it will simply get tagged "unreproducable" and cannot be
forwarded upstream since it doesn't occur in the Debian package or
when I run gnucash build from unmodified source.
